Book Released for the Collaborative Multi-Disciplinary project “Art of Words”

Augusta, GA – The Art of Words is a collaborative project created through a partnership between the Greater Augusta Arts Council and the Augusta Literary Society. Designed to connect visual artists and writers living in and around Augusta, GA, the initiative brought together regional creatives in an inspiring cross-disciplinary exchange.

Following an open call that attracted more than 50 applicants, a panel curated a group of just twenty participants: ten visual artists and ten writers. Each visual artist submitted an original work in the medium of their choice, which then served as inspiration for their paired writer to craft a one-page literary response in their own unique style. From poetry to prose, the written pieces reflected a rich diversity of voices, many of whom stepped outside their comfort zones to respond to the visual works in fresh, imaginative ways.

This release of a physical publication, made possible through generous funding from the Porter Fleming Foundation, will serve as a lasting record of the Art of Words exhibition, which is on view at the City Gallery in Augusta, GA until July 3, 2025. The City Gallery is an exhibition space provided by the City of Augusta and managed by the Greater Augusta Arts Council. It is located at 535 Telfair St. Augusta, GA 30901.
