A Grateful Season at Cross Creek High School
A Grateful Season at Cross Creek High School
As my time serving as a substitute teacher at Cross Creek High School comes to a close, I want to pause and say thank you to the faculty, staff, and administration for the opportunity to be part of this school community.
In a relatively short period of time, our students accomplished some meaningful—and in many cases unexpected—wins:
We developed AgLab, adapting a well-loved elementary school project into a hands-on experience aligned with CTAE standards for high school learners.
Students successfully hatched three sets of chicken eggs, gaining firsthand experience with animal science, responsibility, and teamwork.
Together, we built a loose but practical agribusiness startup framework, introducing students to entrepreneurship and real-world applications of agriculture.
We planted 13 raised garden beds with fall and winter greens, showing students that growing food year-round is not only possible, but empowering.
Students met and learned from members of the local agriculture community, who shared inspiring messages, career pathways, and job opportunities.
The project received local media coverage, helping spotlight student innovation, leadership, and creativity.
What stood out most was the spirit of collaboration and support across the school. Cross Creek is a place where students are trusted to try, to build, and to rise to high expectations—and that culture makes all the difference.
I’m grateful for the welcome, the encouragement, and the chance to learn alongside such dedicated educators. I wish the entire Cross Creek community continued success this school year and look forward to reconnecting in February at Career Day.
