The Farm Bill Is About More Than Farms

One of the things I hope Augusta Agriculture Month helps us understand is just how connected our food system really is.

Last week, the Senate Agriculture Committee stalled the 2026 Farm Bill after lawmakers could not reach agreement over SNAP and other provisions. There were areas of bipartisan agreement—including country-of-origin labeling for meat and year-round E15—but disagreements over nutrition assistance, conservation programs, rural energy and pesticide policy remain unresolved.
