Edward M. McIntyre FOUNDER
The African-American Historical Society was established by the first Black mayor of Augusta, the late Mayor Edward M. McIntyre Sr. He saw the need to document the accomplishments of black Augustans, and he envisioned the History Walk where those Augustans would be memorialized. He led the efforts to establish the first monuments lining the historic Laney-Walker Boulevard.
